Refilling Tips

We understand it is expensive to buy an ink cartridge, either black or colour, especially when you have grown up children going to high school and college, who need to print out large amounts of material for their projects.

Thanks to technological advances made in recycling, you now have an alternative to buying a new printer cartridge every time.

You can either:
tick use a refilled / remanufactured toner cartridge and save 30%-50%
OR
tick refill yourself by purchasing ink refill kits, which is even cheaper.

If you are using a laser cartridge, Colortech suggests you buy a readily available remanufactured cartridge rather than attempt to do it yourself. Re-manufacturing of the laser cartridge involves some technical skill and know-how.

rocket However, refilling an ink jet cartridge is not a rocket science. Almost every refill kit comes with clear instructions on how to refill your empty inkjet cartridges.

Here are some tips if you are refilling your ink jet cartridge:

  1. Refill your cartridge as soon as it becomes empty, without leaving for a few days, as the residual ink in the cartridge dries out and blocks the narrow passages of the nozzles.
  2. Refill slowly and steadily, allowing the sponge inside the cartridge to absorb the new ink. If you rush to fill the cartridge at once, the inks gets spilled out and there would be less ink in the cartridge. Air bubbles may also result, which will cause and an obstruction to the flow of the ink.
  3. While refilling, always keep the empty inkjet cartridge in an inclined position, so that the tank in the cartridge, gets filled up steadily.
  4. Do not refill your inkjet cartridge more than three or four times, as the printer head will be worn out after repeated usages. As a result, the printing will not be sharp and may result in missing lines etc.

When you refill a printer cartridge, there are only two main problems you are likely to run into with an ink cartridge - leaking, and missing lines and/or printing in streaks.

When the cartridge leaks this is almost always a sign that the ink cartridge has not been pressurized properly. Re-pressurize the ink cartridge until it stops leaking. If this does not help, it's probably damaged in some way and needs replacing.

Problems with the print head clogging and streaky printing are common. This happens when ink dries in the micro-size print nozzles and prevents them from firing properly. Other possibilities are the printer head has been damaged by over handling or the copper colour flex circuit is dirty causing a loss in the voltage sent to the print head. If you soak just the print head in some warm distilled water for about 5 minutes, this usually solves the problem.

DISCLAIMER:
The tips provided above are only for general guidance. Colortech Toner & Inks strongly suggest that if there is a problem with your refilled cartridge, then contact your supplier of the ink refill kit for help.
